Pre-K Room

– Copies a circle with a pencil or crayon.

– Ask “why” questions to gain information.

– Maintain a longer attention span of around 5 to 15 minutes.

– Understand how to group and match objects according to color.

– Shows skills in simple problem-solving skills like standing on a small stool to reach something.

– Name and identify many colors.

– Notices other children and joins them in play.

– Calms down within 10 minutes after you leave.

– Plays next to other children and sometimes with them.

– Shows affection for friends without prompting.

– May get upset with major changes in routine.

– Shows more and more independence.

– Able to draw, paint and color (can draw a person with all body parts).

– Starting to work with other mediums for art like clay, paper mache, etc. 

– Develops good finger skills.

– Dresses and undresses independently.

– Writes numbers 1-5.

– Handedness is well established.

– Learning printing & cursive handwriting.

– Understands more abstract spatial concepts (such as, “behind” or “next to”).

– Produces sentences that can be eight or more words in length.

– Answers “why” questions.

– Engages in conversation.

– Sentences can be 8 or more words in length.

– Speech is understandable, but makes mistakes pronouncing long, difficult, or complex words.

– Skip and hop on one foot.

– Catch and throw a ball overhand.

– Walk downstairs alone.

– Able to fasten large buttons without help. 

– Pull up a zipper after it is fastened.

– Begin learning how to tie shoes.

– Balance on one foot for at least 5 seconds.

– Uses consonants in the beginning, middle, and end of words. Some of the more difficult consonants may be distorted, but attempts to say them.

– Understands complex questions.

– Says about 200 to 300 different words.

– Describes how to do things, such as painting a picture.

– Understands rhyming.

– Understands time sequences (what happened first, second, third, etc.).
